Walks around the house

Now that Momma is a little mobile and we’ve got the little boy set up with a carrying sling, we’ve been able to walk as a family once again. Our usual haunts have been the chosen routes for outings with the dogs. Hunting season has begun so we’ve been keep the dogs a bit closer and [...]

The little boy’s first time in the Park…

Our little guy geared up for his first trip into the Park… had a great time with friends Deb & Jason & Jenny’s Mom. Snow was pretty socked in, making visibilty virtually nil until we got to Lamar - where it had just cleared enough to see across the Valley when I spotted the Druid wolf pack. [...]

Elk in the briar, Baby in a Basket

We’ve been hanging quite close to the house on account of our new arrival. We had the first elk in the yard in some time as we awoke this morning. Our darling boy took pitty on us and only woke us once during the night. We could surely get used to that level of sleep [...]

A grizzly stroll this morning…

I heard Jasper bark. He barked loud and hard as he rounded the corner by the Blanding station. Jasper seldom barks at all, if he does it is only when someone pulls into the driveway or something is bad wrong. Jenny and me had seen the grizzly bear tracks beneath the apple trees last night so I [...]

Grizzly bears on the doorstep…

I was wondering when the piles of uneaten apples beneath the crab apple trees north of the house would visited by something other than our two black Labradors… Sometime between when I walked the dogs up there this morning and this afternoon when Jenny and I took them back up by the Blanding Station, a [...]

Butterfly count - a blast from this summer past!

This post is a little later than I had planned but, I’m making it none-the-less. Part of what spurred me on to make the post was Emily from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center (BBHC) from Cody, WY send me the images of their group that was with with me on the count along with my good friend [...]

Frigit temps as of late…

It just looks cold outside… the thermometer on the back of the house read 6F this morning. I’m a bit worried about our trees as many of them still have all of their green leaves on. If the sap and other fluids are still up inside their trunks many trees could sustain some damage as [...]

Autumn Wildlife Watching Class

I was so lucky to have this amazing group of seven folks on my final course of 2009. We had set out to do some autumn wildlife watching but the weather had other ideas… it was more like a winter wildlife watching trip! Temps were low - in the teens and single digits and the [...]

Just finished up the last of our 3 day class through the Yellowstone Association entitled “The Wolves of Yellowstone”. Had a wonderful group of folks for the class that came in from far away points such as Michigan, Texas and California and as close as Helena and West Yellowstone Montana. Our first evening out watching [...]
