National Sculpture Society meeting in Loveland, CO

I had the good fortune of being able to attend the most recent meeting of the National Sculpture Society in Loveland Colorado. This was my first time attending the event and had a great time visiting other artists studios (including those of Kent Ullberg, Dan Ostermiller, Herb Mignery, Jane DeDecker, etc.), the panel discussions, awards [...]

Rarest of wildlife sightings… :) Homo bumannus inuteri

Ok, ok… it is time to spill the beans for those who haven’t heard the ‘leaked’ information out there in the Gardiner, Montana tabloids and Yellowstone region chat rooms….

We are expecting our first kiddo! We are at 18 weeks now and went in for the ultrasound today. Jenny and I were utterly convinced from the [...]

Ritual of the River

Jenny and I have had an annual ritual where we go out to the confluence of Lamar River and Soda Butte Creek each spring to watch logs float down the flood waters at peak levels. It is a hoot… but an acquired taste. So many folks come up to us and ask, “what are you [...]

Jenny is the eagle-eyed baby spotter!

More babies are afoot! Jenny was heading home from Lamar Valley this afternoon (while I slaved away in the studio) and spotted some BRAND NEW bighorn sheep lambs in the Gardner River Canyon AND…. the FIRST elk calf of the year. This is the first one seen so far this season… Good job darlin’

Walkabout on the ‘homestead’

Jenny and i took the pups for a stroll amid the wonderfully warm weather this morning. The dogs bounded around looking for the next best carcass or bone and we marveled at the emerging alder, aspen, cottonwood and willow leaves. Eagle Creek is running a lot more full these days and jenny had a bit [...]

Heavy breathing behind the sculpture

With the weather so suitable to working outdoors today, I rolled the large version of the deer sculpture outside to work on it. I have been making a bunch of adjustments and refinements which involves stepping back some distance to view the sculpture in its entirety… on one of these occasions I heard some very [...]

Wild time watching for Wildlife in Yellowstone

Spring Wildlife Watching in Yellowstone - May 11-13th.
We had a great time this week witha crew of veteran wildlife watchers/Yellowstone Institute students… you know you’re in trouble (as an instructor) when you have a group of returning students with enough past ‘dirt’ courtesy of earlier trips, and a penchant for harassment. Forcing ourselves out of [...]

Please forgive the gap in posts…

With a mad dash afoot that last few weeks (mainly with working on the large version of this deer sculpture), and some traveling, my entries have fallen off a bit… not because we don’t have anything to report, only that it has been a little too nutty to sit down and write.
The place is GREEN, [...]

Trading in their winter coats

With spring slowly taking hold… it has been snow at least every other day over that last few weeks, but with the moderately warming temps and the creeks running and the sunlight hours staying longer and longer, the mule deer and bison, and our Jasper and Casey pups, for that matter, are beginning the seasonal [...]
