Jenny’s Trip to Old Faithful

I traveled to Old Faithful January 16-19 to observe a Yellowstone Association Institute photography class and to meet with staff at the Snow Lodge. Getting to Old Faithful in the winter means traveling via oversnow vehicles to the interior of the park. In this case we had a charter snowcach for the class - a [...]

Lazy day in the Park

Took the morning away from the studio and spent some time sketching and trying out our new digital camera… sketches of bull elk #6, landscapes, pics of sunrise….

Monday Morning

Nearing -10F this morning
Three maybe four wolves howl from ridge behind house (1/4-1/3 mile off), its dark, still
Jenny leaves for work and the dogs and I walk,
Snow squeaks and grinds in the cold, keeping the pups close - the wolves are not far off
Sun rises over Rattlesnake Butte in a halo of yellow and orange [...]

Working in the studio this morning

Morning light in the western sky on this inauguration day.
Working in the studio this morning on the cow bison piece with the working title of “Spring Cleaning” or “High Point of Spring” or something like that… it is finally getting out of the “I-really-don’t-like-this-sculpture-at-all” stage in favor of… “well-this-may-be-worth-keeping-after-all” stage. I have been incorporating some [...]

A mountain lion was spotted…

A mountain lion was spotted between Gardiner and Mammoth today. Apparently the pile of cars, scopes and cameras in position along the Gardner River on my way to pick Jenny up at the Hotel in Mammoth was not for wolves…. it was a mountain lion with a kill. I sounded like onlookers had quite a [...]

Jenny is down at Old Faithful

Jenny is down and Old Faithful and so it has been me and the pups at home this weekend. I can’t wait for her to get home to see the great pictures she’s been taking with our new digital camera. Worked on being lazy around the house for a change, played with oil paints some [...]

Wolves of Yellowstone Class

What a great group of folks to have for a few days in Lamar… though the wolf viewing was limited to the last day of the class, we had a wonderful time hiking through the deep snow along Rose Creek to the Rose Creek Wolf acclimation pen that was used in 1995 & 1996. Our [...]

Monday

Just dropped Jenny off at work in Gardiner. The skies are half clear, half cloud with the soft rouge of morning sun blushing the clouds’ cheeks. It is quiet too… no wind, and cool - just a few degrees below the freezing point. There were 3 bighorn sheep rams on the switchbacks of the Jardine [...]

It’s Jenny’s birthday today!

It’s Jenny’s birthday today! We avoided all activities resembling work and went to the B-Bar Ranch, up Tom Miner Basin along the NW border of Yellowstone. One of the major perks of skiing there is the LUNCH. After skiing your way along the cushy, groomed trials is a fantastic lunch of sandwiches, chili, salad and [...]
