A bedtime sketch

This is a quick ballpoint pen sketch that did before bed last night. I used Jenny is the starting point but was more focused on trying some effects with the pen than creating an exact likeness.

Elk In the Yard

We spent a lazy day at home today, which was no problem because the wildlife came to us! About mid afternoon a small herd of cow elk and a couple of calves made their way through the yard, munching on the tall green grass around the house. The photo is of one that jumped the [...]

Summer Has Come to Yellowstone

One of the advantage of lots of rain and a late spring is that we are grateful when the hot days finally hit. Today is one of those banner blue sky days, starting off cloudless blue in the morning and progressing to windy with big puffy clouds in the afternoon. This is the time of [...]

Skiing at Eagle Creek

I (Jenny) went skiing this morning with the puppy children. It was a blissful two hours. A bald eagle flew over the backyard as we loaded into the truck. There had been a fresh layer of snow overnight, and the sun was backlighting the lifting clouds. The view into the park from the Eagle Creek [...]

The little boy’s first time in the Park…

Our little guy geared up for his first trip into the Park… had a great time with friends Deb & Jason & Jenny’s Mom. Snow was pretty socked in, making visibilty virtually nil until we got to Lamar - where it had just cleared enough to see across the Valley when I spotted the Druid wolf pack. [...]

An easy-going evening

Jenny and I decided to treat ourselves out to dinner tonight in the big city of Gardiner… not terribly exciting fare but it allowed us to relax with a walk with the pups and I’ll leave out the part about the less-than-relaxing attempt to fix the water hydrant at our well cover… Needless to say [...]

Wildlife in the Park… watching with friends

I got up early and headed out into the Park this morning with friends Scott and Dean from California. They were in town for a Yellowstone Association event and we used it as a chance to get ‘out and about’. We made a few stops along the stretch between Mammoth and Lamar Valley and managed [...]

New species for our yard list… and brunch at Chico

Jenny and I were invited to go to the mother’s day brunch up at Chico Hot springs, BUT the morning air and light was so spectacular that we had to take a walk around the home place with the pups, first. Spotted a spring white butterfly (actually is was a female as they sometimes have a [...]

Night Hawks about… and stunning sunset

Jenny and I kicked back for a few minutes after attending a Yellowstone Association event down in Gardiner… on the way home the setting sun lit up the sky in the most remarkable way… AND we heard night hawks about as well… summer is setting in!
